Project Barbatos Noir by Asrul Hazimin
Adapted from the modeler’s album…
The aim is to transform a slender HG 1/144 scaled Gundam into a more muscular, steam-punk-looking mecha. Being a passionate mechanical engineer myself, I have a strong tendency to change the design into a heavily mechanized mecha incorporating hydraulic cylinders, pipes and fulcrums.
Some mini LEDs were also added. This is also the first project where I scratch built the weapon by using pla plates, grille and Barbatos ankle armours.
This project is also an experimentation in dealing with black color, which is known to “swallow-up” the details. Light weathering technique was used; consisting of two layers of paint (silver leaf for the base and black/red for the top). This time no hairspray is used. The silver leaf layer is left dry for a night and later overcoat it with top color. A controlled paint-chipping using mini filer is used.
